పేద రైతు రామయ్య, అత్యాశపరుడు భూపతి
Poor Farmer Ramayya and Greedy Bhupathi
విజయనగరానికి దగ్గరలోని ఒక గ్రామంలో రామయ్య అనే పేద రైతు ఉండేవాడు. తండ్రి నుంచి వచ్చిన చిన్న పొలాన్నే నమ్ముకుని, కష్టపడి పంటలు పండిస్తూ కుటుంబాన్ని పోషించేవాడు.
In a village near Vijayanagara lived a poor farmer named Ramayya. Relying on the small field he had inherited from his father, he worked hard to grow crops and feed his family.
అదే ఊరిలో భూపతి అనే ధనవంతుడు ఉండేవాడు. అతనికి డబ్బుకు కొదవ లేదు... కానీ అత్యాశకు మాత్రం అంతే లేదు.
In the same village lived a rich man named Bhupathi. He had no shortage of money… but there was no end to his greed.

An Old Document — Does Half the Harvest Belong to Bhupathi?
ఒకరోజు భూపతి ఒక పాత పత్రం పట్టుకుని రామయ్య ఇంటికి వచ్చాడు.
One day Bhupathi came to Ramayya's house holding an old document.
రామయ్య దిక్కు తోచక, వెంటనే తెనాలి రామకృష్ణ దగ్గరకు పరుగెత్తాడు.
Not knowing what to do, Ramayya ran straight to Tenali Ramakrishna.
రామకృష్ణ ప్రశ్న — పైభాగమా? కిందిభాగమా?
Ramakrishna's Question — The Top Half or the Bottom Half?మరుసటి రోజు రామకృష్ణ పొలం దగ్గరకు వచ్చాడు. ఊరి జనమంతా అక్కడ గుమిగూడారు.
The next day Ramakrishna came to the field. The whole village gathered there.
రామకృష్ణ ఏ భావమూ చూపకుండా తలూపాడు.
Ramakrishna nodded, showing no expression at all.
మొదటి పంట — బంగాళాదుంపలు, భూపతికి ఆకులు!
First Harvest — Potatoes, and Bhupathi Gets the Leaves!
కొన్ని నెలలు గడిచాయి. కోతకాలం వచ్చింది. భూపతి కూలీలను వెంటబెట్టుకుని గర్వంగా పొలానికి వచ్చాడు.
A few months passed. Harvest time came. Bhupathi arrived proudly at the field with his labourers.
కూలీలు కోసి తెచ్చి భూపతి ముందు పోశారు. అవి పచ్చి ఆకులు, తీగలు మాత్రమే!
The labourers cut it and piled it in front of Bhupathi. It was nothing but green leaves and vines!
ఊరి జనం గొల్లున నవ్వారు. భూపతి పళ్ళు కొరికాడు.
The villagers roared with laughter. Bhupathi ground his teeth.
రెండో పంట — వరి, భూపతికి ఎండిన వేర్లు!
Second Harvest — Paddy, and Bhupathi Gets Dry Roots!
మరో పంట కాలం వచ్చింది. భూపతి మళ్ళీ కూలీలతో వచ్చాడు. ఈసారి దుంపలన్నీ తనకే దక్కుతాయని చాలా నమ్మకంగా ఉన్నాడు.
Another season came. Bhupathi returned with his labourers, completely sure that this time all the tubers would be his.
కూలీలు నేల తవ్వి కింది భాగాన్ని తెచ్చి భూపతి ముందు పోశారు. అవి ఎండిన వేర్లు, మొదళ్ళు మాత్రమే!
The labourers dug up the ground and piled the bottom part before him. It was nothing but dry roots and stubble!
ఊరి జనం మళ్ళీ నవ్వారు. భూపతి కోపంతో ఊగిపోయాడు.
The villagers laughed again. Bhupathi shook with rage.
మూడో పంట — మొక్కజొన్న, అత్యాశకు ముగింపు
Third Harvest — Maize, and the End of Greed
మూడో పంట కాలం వచ్చింది. భూపతి కూలీలతో పొలానికి వచ్చి గొప్పగా అన్నాడు.
The third season came. Bhupathi arrived at the field with his labourers and announced grandly—
కూలీలు మొక్కల పైభాగాన్ని, కింద ఉన్న వేర్లను వేరుచేసి భూపతి ముందు పడేశారు. అవి ఆకులు, వేర్లు మాత్రమే!
The labourers separated the tops of the plants and the roots below, and threw them before Bhupathi. Only leaves and roots!
అదే సమయంలో పొలం మధ్యలో రామయ్య బంగారు రంగు మొక్కజొన్న కంకులతో బుట్టలు నింపుకుంటూ కనిపించాడు.
Just then, in the middle of the field, Ramayya could be seen filling baskets with golden ears of maize.
అక్కడున్న గ్రామస్తులంతా నవ్వారు. భూపతి తలదించుకున్నాడు.
All the villagers laughed. Bhupathi hung his head.
ఆ మాట వినగానే భూపతికి కోపం నషాళానికి అంటింది. కోపంతో ఊగిపోతూ పత్రాన్ని ముక్కలు ముక్కలుగా చించి నేలకేసి విసిరాడు.
Hearing that, Bhupathi's anger hit the roof. Trembling with rage, he tore the document to pieces and flung it on the ground.
భూపతి కోపంతో, గర్వంతో విసవిసా నడుస్తూ అక్కడినుంచి వెళ్ళిపోయాడు. రామయ్య కళ్ళలో నీళ్ళతో రామకృష్ణకు రెండు చేతులూ జోడించి నమస్కరించాడు.
Bhupathi stormed off in anger and pride. With tears in his eyes, Ramayya folded both hands and bowed to Ramakrishna.
అత్యాశతో ఇతరులను మోసం చేయాలనుకుంటే, చివరికి మనమే మోసపోతాం.
When we try to cheat others out of greed, in the end it is we who are cheated.
కష్టపడి పనిచేసేవారి న్యాయమైన ఫలాన్ని ఎవరూ లాక్కోలేరు. తెలివిగా ఆలోచిస్తే, బలవంతుడి అత్యాశను కూడా అతని మాటలతోనే ఓడించవచ్చు.
No one can steal the honest fruit of hard work for long. With clear thinking, even a powerful man's greed can be beaten with his own words.
అత్యాశతో ఇతరులను మోసం చేయాలనుకుంటే చివరికి మనమే మోసపోతాం.
When we try to cheat others out of greed, in the end we are the ones cheated.
భూపతి కోరిన భాగాన్ని బట్టి రామయ్య పంట మార్చాడు — పైభాగం అడిగితే బంగాళాదుంపలు, కిందిభాగం అడిగితే వరి, పైన-కింద రెండూ అడిగితే మొక్కజొన్న. ప్రతిసారీ భూపతికి ఆకులు, వేర్లే మిగిలాయి.
Ramayya changed his crop to match whatever Bhupathi chose — potatoes when he took the top, paddy when he took the bottom, and maize when he took both. Each time Bhupathi got only leaves and roots.
కోపంతో భూపతి తానే ఆ పత్రాన్ని చించేశాడు. దాంతో రామయ్యను ఇకపై ఇబ్బంది పెట్టే హక్కు కూడా పోగొట్టుకున్నాడు.
In his rage Bhupathi tore up the document himself — losing any right to trouble Ramayya again.
అవును, 6+ వయసు పిల్లలు నవ్వుతూ నేర్చుకునే కథ. పంటలు ఎక్కడ పండుతాయో కూడా సరదాగా తెలుసుకుంటారు.
