Vikramarka Bethala Stories — one of the most ancient and magnificent story collections in Telugu literature. Born from the Sanskrit text 'Baital Pachisi', these tales have passed wisdom, morality, and knowledge across generations for over 2,500 years. The story begins when King Vikramaditya of Ujjain receives a strange task from a tantric ascetic named Kapali Yogi — to retrieve a corpse hanging from a tree in the cremation ground. The king goes at night, and discovers that the corpse is inhabited by Bethala, an ancient spirit. When Vikrama lifts the body onto his shoulder, Bethala begins telling a story.

Every story ends with a question. "If you know the answer and stay silent, your head shall shatter into a thousand pieces," Bethala warns. The moment Vikrama answers — Bethala flies back to the tree. This cycle repeats 25 times. In the 25th story, Vikrama faces a question he cannot answer — and Kapali Yogi's true secret is finally revealed.

Each tale probes a different aspect of human nature — love, courage, morality, justice, sacrifice, knowledge. Vikrama's every answer reveals the depth of his character. These stories are not just for children — they offer profound food for thought for adults too.
